Twenty Twenty – a year in pictures

Twenty Twenty a year in pictures by Sarah Williams photography

I cannot believe it is the middle of January already and what a difference a year makes! This time last year we were out in Florida celebrating my 40th birthday at Disney and Universal without a worry or a care in the world. Fast forward a year and we are in full lockdown in the middle of a pandemic!

2020 certainly did not go the way I or anyone could have planned, and it was definitely the year of the micro wedding! Ten of my couples were able to get married, two of these before lockdown with Lauren and Rich enjoying their Upwaltham Barns wedding just days before the first lockdown in March.

I then had to wait until July before I was able to capture a wedding again with Matt and Jessie over at Tournerbury. So many restrictions in place for their day which soon became the norm for the rest of my 2020 weddings. As the restrictions moved like a yoyo, some of my couples were lucky to have up to 30 guests and a reception, others just 15 guests with a reception, but the underlying feeling I got from each one of those weddings was love, happiness and a lot of relief!

The smaller weddings certainly intensified the emotions on each day and I for one was totally relieved when each couple was able to say I do when so many last year were not able to.

For my final wedding of 2020 with Sarah and Dean there was certainly a lot of relief because just two days before their date they found out their reception venue was going to be placed into tier 3. Cue their amazing planner Emily at Tying the Knot who managed to secure the wonderful Ashdown Park for the couple to host their reception after an intimate church service near Horsham. Their day turned out to be one of the longest days I have ever photographed and all with just 15 guests too!

Yet again I found it so hard to pick photos for this post because there really were so many special moments to share from the 10 weddings we were a part of, but I still came in with over 200 photos! I hope these photos give hope to my couples that had to postpone their own weddings last year, that regardless of the current restrictions each day really was so incredibly special.

I am planning to share my engagement, family and product and branding work in another blog post so that will be coming soon, and although I did not get to capture much cricket, the matches I did were brilliant and one even featured Alex and his team so that was pretty special.

As always, I really am so grateful for all the couples who put their trust in me to capture their day and allow me and Alex to create so many wonderful memories too. I must also thank all the wonderful caterers, make-up artists and hair stylists, florists, drivers, videographers, cake makers, musicians, planners and all the venues we worked with in 2020, who helped make each wedding so special.

This year we get a second chance to capture weddings for couples that had to postpone, which at the moment includes trips to The Lake District, The Wirral, Norfolk and Warwick to name but a few, so I have my fingers crossed that they also get to finally have their special day.

So many lovely weddings to look forward to and although I am pretty much fully booked for this year, my diary is open for 2022 and I already have some lovely weddings to look forward to. Please do get in touch if you would like to find out more about me and my photography and I can send you over a brochure.

So here is just a little look back at my 2020 year of weddings and I hope you enjoy (you can view a slideshow first or scroll through all the images below this).
